Agrivoltaics -crops partly shaded by solar panels- are promising systems as they produce sustainable energy while creating a favorable microclimate for crops (reduced heat stress and evapotranspiration). Therefore, Agrivoltaics may benefit Mexican crops that often experience high solar radiation and water scarcity, and can be an excellent fit for crops that are cultivated under shading nets, e.g. strawberries. In this project we aim to develop a large PPP proposal involving Dutch solar and horticultural companies and Mexican growers, to test and promote Agrivoltaics systems. We will prepare for the PPP by conducting a desk-study and a pilot experiment in collaboration with Mexican universities, and integrate this with expertise of the consortium partners.
