Samenvatting

The proposed program aims to develop smart arable agri-food chains, initiating and aligning the required R&D and innovations of key components of the chains. The focus will be on arable chains potato, wheat and sugar. Precision farming (PF), Plant Breeding (PB) and Big data analysis (BDA) are central themes in the proposed R&D program. Projects will likely be focussed on new sensors for quality measurements, fenotyping at the field level, introduction of big data analytics, algorithms for smart use of data, IoT, data sharing tools and networks, autonomous navigation and robotics. The approach is bringing together enabling technologies from sectors outside A&F and T&U, and develop them into Agri-Food innovations in projects within the SmAAF program. The results will contribute to smarter breeding, farming and processing. They will give companies a better national and international competitive position in the agri-food business. They will make agri-food more sustainable, contributing to national and EU policies. The involvement of selected umbrella organisations, commercial companies and knowledge institutes will safeguard effective and efficient organisation of the resources.
