Samenvatting
The project is part of the infrastructure initiative of the EU to integrate and open infrastructures of European interest. VetBioNet seeks to complement and strengthen the present European capacity and competence to meet the challenges of (re)emerging infectious diseases by establishing a comprehensive network of pre-eminent European BSL3 infrastructures, international organisations, and industry partners that is dedicated to advance research on epizootic and zoonotic diseases and to promote technological developments. Objectives are a) to enhance the preparedness of the major European BSL3 facilities to accelerate the response to (re)emerging epizootic and zoonotic threats, b) to carry out joint research activities designed to improve the scientific and technological standards for high pathogen infectiology research and c) to promote and facilitate access to the infrastructure resources. In regard to the latter, Wageningen Bioveterinary Research will provide access and research collaboration to international groups from industry and research to their unique BSL3 farm animal facilities and to their clinical, pathological and immunological expertise for infectious disease studies.
