Summary
Peru is a major fruit exporter, with banana just one of the many fruits exported. Yet, approx. 80,000 Peruvian families depend on that production of organic bananas. Globally, about one third of the harvested food is lost or wasted. If at the time of harvest more accurate information is available about post-harvest quality-decay characteristics of specific batches, then the harvest planning and the quality-controlled logistics can be optimized. The objective of this project is to better assess the harvest quality of organic bananas. The expected impact of this project is that it will help to reduce postharvest losses in the supply chain for organic bananas, and beyond.
